Lately, there have been many inquiries as to the identity of The King and his opinions on various topics. In order to satisfy these inquiries, I periodically speak with him on the phone and take note of his responses. The following are extracted from our discussions. |
| Q. Why do you review movies? |
A. I am a story-teller. I love a good story. Movies are simply one of the ways that stories are told in our time. I'm not really a movie reviewer, per se. I rather see myself as a story evaluator. Was this story told well? Was I enthralled by the plot, the characters, the events, etc? Is this a story that I would tell others? If yes, then I consider the story worthy of my recognition. |
| Q. Where did you come up with your rating scheme? |
A. I am The King. What better symbols of status and quality than the Platinum, Gold, and Silver Crowns? The Royal Pardon, Dungeon Torture, and The Guillotine all represent what I think should be done to mediocre, poor-quality, and down-right horrible movies and those who created them. |
| Q. Some visitors to this website have insinuated that you call yourself The King because you are actually Elvis. Is this true? Are you Elvis? |
A. No. I am not Elvis. Although, I do have it on very good authority that he was rather upset by his portrayal in the movie, "Bubba Ho-Tep". |
| Q. What is your favorite comedy of all time? |
A. Only 2 comedies have made me laugh so hard that I could not breathe--"Dumb and Dumber" and "Napoleon Dynamite". I have not yet decided which of those two is my favorite. |
| Q. It seems like there have been more foreign films released in the US lately. Are you a fan of foreign cinema? |
A. Certainly. Watching films from other countries is very much like sampling foreign foods. The basic ingredients used are the same, but the overall flavors of the resulting dishes are unique to the regions where they are made. Movies are quite similar in this respect. Over the years, I have developed a taste for Japanese and French films. More recently, I have begun to appreciate the flavor of Indian cinema. I think that as more people see movies from other areas of the world, they begin to appreciate how delicious these exotic dishes can be. A few years ago, for example, one of my favorite movies was "Intimate Strangers". I found myself thinking back on it often, as I would an especially memorable meal. |
| Q. Who are your favorite actors and actresses? |
A. There are so many talented actors and actresses that choosing favorites is quite impossible. It's also unfair for me to pick favorites since I have not yet met all of them. |
